Welcome to Stoner Ranch
Stoner Ranch is a beautiful and historic ranch in the Dolores River Valley of Colorado.
Barry and Carmen Nordstrand acquired the property in 2022 with hopes to improve the land and make it more accessible to the public. They recently distributed a survey to gather ideas for the future of the ranch.

We were blown away by how many people responded to our community survey and provided helpful input. We received 250 responses (many more than anticipated), and about half of the respondents are interested in volunteering or working on the ranch. Thank you to everyone who took time to contribute!
Part of our goal is to eventually reopen some of the ranch for public access, so we asked the community how the property could best be used. We collected hundreds of ideas, and these were the most popular:

Many years ago, we were drawn to this area, and we have been in love with the San Juans ever since. We purchased Stoner Ranch in 2022 and have a passion for the unique history of the Dolores River Valley — and of the ranch itself.
Over the generations, Stoner Ranch has been home to thousands of years of native livelihood, hunting and fur trapping in pioneer days, a potato farm during the Great Depression, a ski area and a restaurant a generation ago, and most recently a private grazing property. Since 2022, we have reinforced the river banks, restored the farmland, and started growing hay on the property. In the coming years, we hope to create a gathering place for the community.
Our neighbors have contributed some very creative, thoughtful, and fun ideas through our survey that we never would have thought of on our own. As we bring some of these ideas to life, please know that we will stay focused on serving our local community, honoring the history of the ranch, and minimizing our environmental impact.
We will continue to keep you updated as we move along.
Thank you again!
